THE FARM

KAMARANTHO

Meet the Organic Farm Kamarantho

On an area of 5,7 hectares, in the village of Kamari in Paros, we are building our dream step by step: a farm to visit, that aims to gather and present the plant wealth of the island and the wider Aegean ecosystem.

We follow the principles of organic farming with dedication. We are inspired by the principles of permaculture and strive to follow its cultivation methods.

Our Goals are:

To create a model multi-crop farm that can be visited, suitable for the ecosystem of the Cyclades and more particularly of Paros, which will offer joy, knowledge, and experiences to visitors, both local and foreign.

To produce excellent, clean, and organic quality products that will be recognized in the local market and loved by consumers.

To function as a base for learning and implementing the most appropriate modern agricultural practices of organic farming.

To succeed in highlighting a model of small-scale organic polyculture based on the principles of permaculture and the sustainable development of the Parian environment.

What are we doing

On a 5,7 hectare hillside, in the village of Kamari in Paros, a small village of 70 inhabitants, with an agricultural tradition and limited tourist traffic, we created step by step from scratch a polyculture that includes 340 olive trees, 60 pomegranate trees, 120 fig trees, 20 almond trees, several carob trees and acacias, a small vineyard as well as a range of cultivated aromatic plants (oregano, marjoram, dittany, thyme, rosemary, sage, mint, spearmint, lemon balm, Parian thyme and Parian sea fennel). Our estate has organic certification from DHO and has been systematically monitored for the last three years.

KAMARANTHO

Our Estate

In many parts of the estate we have preserved the zones of native vegetation that existed before and we systematically try to maintain and develop the diversity of flora and fauna, encourage colonisation with beneficial insects, birds and reptiles and maintain intact soil islands with native microfauna.

We have installed a small unheated greenhouse of 150 square meters, where we produce organic plants for our own use. We emphasize the production of aromatic plants and plants suitable for the conditions of the Cyclades and encourage residents and visitors to choose them for planting over other more water-intensive plants.

We restore the dry stone walls of the estate with the help of local craftsmen, with the aim of preserving and highlighting this ancient technique, which is environmentally friendly and proven to be effective in preventing soil erosion.

Our farm is open every Friday from 09:30 – 12:30 or upon request. Our visitors can tour the farm, get to know us, taste our products, enjoy the natural environment and relax in the gazebo. They can also ascertain the health of the ecosystem we grow, the quality of our products and, why not, follow our practices at their own home or business scale.
